One Life Physiotherapy, Pilates and Coaching

Women's Health Physiotherapy

Specialist assessment and treatment for pelvic and musculoskeletal health at every stage of life: pregnancy, postnatal recovery, menopause and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Musculoskeletal pain during pregnancy and postnatally is very common: low back pain, hip pain, pubic symphysis pain and sciatica. Postnatal problems can also include Rectus Abdominus Diastasis, a separation of the abdominal muscles, where specialist rehabilitation or Pilates can make a real improvement. We also help new mothers with posture and strain during breastfeeding.

Pelvic floor dysfunction, leaking when you run or cough, or needing the toilet all the time, affects one in three women, and it is not something to just put up with. The most common cause is weakness in the pelvic floor muscles, whether after pregnancy or through peri-menopause and menopause as oestrogen levels drop.

Exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor are very effective, but verbal instructions alone are rarely enough. A fully trained women's health physiotherapist will assess your pelvic floor properly, find where the weaknesses are, and build a tailor made programme. You are welcome to bring someone with you, and a trained chaperone is available. The majority of patients report reduced leakage, reduced urgency and real improvements in quality of life.
