Physiotherapy for Hands and Wrists

Hand and wrist pain has a huge impact on everyday life, and rest alone is rarely practical. We identify the cause and treat it with splints, strapping, acupuncture and stretches. Our hand specialist Dora Pandi is an expert in hand and wrist conditions and rehabilitation after surgery or fracture.

What does a consultation involve?

  • A detailed history of your problem, activities and general health
  • A physical assessment, for which you may need to remove some outer clothing (a chaperone is available on request)
  • A tailored management plan for your condition
  • Referral for further investigations or specialist assessment if needed, liaising with your GP where required

Carpal tunnel syndrome

A bundle of nerves and tendons runs through the carpal tunnel at the wrist, prone to compression from repetitive movement or fluid build up in pregnancy. Symptoms are tingling or numbness in the middle three fingers, with pain and sometimes weakness of the hand. A Futura splint at night keeps the wrist straight and eases the pressure.

Base of thumb pain

Pain at the base of the thumb is most often arthritis in the CMC joint: pain on gripping or writing, sometimes swelling or clicking. A thumb spica splint rests the joint during the day, and specific strengthening exercises support it.
