Physiotherapy for Spinal and Back Pain
Back pain and sciatica are among the most common reasons for coming to see us. We start with what matters to you: what your back pain stops you doing. That shapes a plan to get you back to doing what you love, using structured exercise, manual therapy, needling therapies and education. There is strong evidence for physiotherapy and non-surgical care for back pain.
What does a consultation involve?
- A detailed history of your problem, activities and general health
- A physical assessment, for which you may need to remove some outer clothing (a chaperone is available on request)
- A tailored management plan for your condition
- Referral for further investigations or specialist assessment if needed, liaising with your GP where required
Structured exercise programmes
Strengthening for core stability (Pilates is a great route, see our classes), stretching for hips and hamstrings, aerobic exercise to reduce pain sensitivity and motor control work, delivered as a tailored programme on our web app.
Manual and needling therapies
Massage, spinal manipulative therapy, and acupuncture or dry needling, which now sits within NICE guidelines for chronic back pain.
Education and stress reduction
Understanding pain in simple terms makes a real difference. Pain does not always equal damage, and movement helps more often than not. Sleep, exercise, time outdoors and breath work all reduce the stress that sensitises pain.
Red flags
We always watch for signs of serious underlying issues and can refer to your GP or a consultant for further assessment. These conditions are very rare, and you are in safe hands with our team.
