Physiotherapy for Shoulder Pain
Our shoulder specialist team, led by Lead Physiotherapist Helen Patten with senior physio Rory Harrison, supports recovery from rotator cuff strains, impingement, frozen shoulder and instability. Helen has worked as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner for the Sussex MSK Service and has excellent links with local orthopaedic surgeons. We can refer for MRI scans and x-rays if required.
What does a consultation involve?
- A detailed history of your problem, activities and general health
- A physical assessment, for which you may need to remove some outer clothing (a chaperone is available on request)
- A tailored management plan for your condition
- Referral for further investigations or specialist assessment if needed, liaising with your GP where required
Shoulder impingement or subacromial pain
The most common shoulder condition we see at the clinic.
Frozen shoulder
A debilitating condition that tends to affect people between 40 and 60, sometimes triggered by injury or surgery and more common with diabetes. The shoulder capsule becomes inflamed then contracts, painfully restricting your arm. It resolves eventually but can take two years; physiotherapy helps restore range, strength and comfort.
Shoulder instability
The shoulder relies heavily on muscles and soft tissue for control. After injury, or when muscles are imbalanced, the joint can feel like it pops out of its socket. Specialist rehabilitation is essential to get the best outcome.
